Here is a concrete example of using theatrical activities when learning a new language. This is what I call: “Living a language”

This is one of many sketches along with songs that my students learnt during a period of around nine months. The girl you see in this particular sketch had no previous knowledge of English before joining us, whereas the boy’s, level was better but was not capable of formulating phrases when he joined us.

The same sketch has also been worked on with all age groups.

The idea of SIMELTA is to gather as much information as possible about the needs of L2 teachers who work with children, adolescents, adults, seniors and migrants during its two year duration. From this information we will be constructing small language learning activities that are connected with theatre that teachers can download freely from the platforms that we create and feed us back their experience when using them.

Please note. We will be creating modules to de-dramatize the idea of theatre.

Some teachers are already using “theatrical activities” or role plays.

You do not need a theatre environment to do this.

We also understand that there are teachers who would like to use “theatre” as an additional tool that they can use from time to time in connection with their habitual methods but do not know where to start…

The modules that we are going to create will be easy to follow. Clear teacher guidelines that will slowly start the ball rolling that will help the teacher to gain confidence in his or her new found role.
